How are You Doing?

I don’t know about you, but if you are an Aussie, Spring is all about emerging out of the grey cold and damp of winter into the beauty of new life bursting out wherever we go. Fresh fragrances in the air, warming temperatures and sunshine that is warm. I know we don’t have snow like the northern hemisphere but cold grey winters cause us to stay at home and hibernate.

But, here we are almost at the end of October and we are have barely seen two consecutive sunny days. Our country is bracing yet again for extensive flooding and almost every single day the sky is grey and overcast. It can and does very easily change mood.

I have noticed that people are not as upbeat and seem to be dragging their feet a little more than usual. People are talking about being tired, a lot. The usual experience for most of us, in Spring, is that it is a time when the winter wardrobe is put away for another year and out comes the lighter clothes and we are beginning to get excited about spending lots of time in our great outdoors. Barbecues, picnics, the beach and Christmas holidays fast approaching.

However, it is not the case. If you are feeling a little low in mood, I can assure you that it has a lot to do with the grey days we are experiencing. We, super blessed Aussies, need to try to find ways to make grey days fun. We need to learn to bring happiness in the midst of the gloom. Remember that, for the most part, we are blessed.

What can you do today to brighten your day and in doing so brighten the day of those you do life with? Maybe try an indoor picnic with the kids or your friends. Pack a picnic basket like you would do if you were going on an outdoor picnic. Spread a rug and cushions out on the floor in your family room or lounge room, put some music on and enjoy the time together. Put some flowers on your dining room table. Wear your bright coloured clothes and decide that grey is not going to win.

One thing we can also be sure of here in the Great Southland, it isn’t going to be forever – we all know it won’t be long before we will be complaining about 40 C degree days.
