the journey of a lifetime begins with the smallest steps….
To write or not to write…..that is the question! Or rather it has been the question for me for a very long time. Over 18 years in fact.
The picture above comes from a bookmark that my best friend gave to me over 25 years ago now. She has stood with me through most of the ups and downs of life over the past 20 years. She has seen it all and she knew there was a story to be told.
The problem for me, is not whether I want to write or not, the problem is that each time I start, something happens that makes it almost impossible for me to actually keep going. What is that all about? Is it because the time is not yet right to write my story? Is it that I am not meant to write my story? I honestly do not know, but I am getting quite frustrated because each day that passes sees me grow another day older and I wonder whether the relevance of what I have to share will help anyone.
I was told that not every story has to be published to reach its audience. Sometimes the writer is the audience and the writer is the only one who needs to learn or gain from it being written down. So who is my story for? I guess that is one question you need to ask before you begin the journey of writing a book or a blog.
I think my story which, if you have read my early blog posts, you will know that it is a story or a journey from having no idea who I was, because of a fantasy world I had created, which was safe and known, into the world of the truth of who I was. From lies to truth.
So many of us live, especially today, in this cyber fantasy world. We are trying to keep up with what we see on social media. I see young women and men, who are struggling with identity. Young women and men, who have an intense desire to be anything but their true selves in order to feel accepted and loved.
That is who my story is for. And so as I continue in this journey of trying to get the words on a page and published, I have decided to continue with my blog so that I at least feel like I am saying something in the here and now that might resonate with someone.
Thanks for reading.
