Some days we are faced with uncertainty. You are faced with the ‘what ifs’ I talked about last post I had on Facebook. I had one of those yesterday and until I get results back – there is a bit of that still remaining. It is not forefront in my mind like it was yesterday but it bubbles away in the background. Added to that I have a really bad toothache and have to go to the dentist.
Have you ever had one of those days or couple of days or even longer where it just seems to be one thing after another? What do we do in those times? I would love to say that I am full of grace and peace. I am not. It is a struggle and you really think ‘this is never going to end’ or ‘is this as good as it gets?’ or ‘Why me isn’t it someone else’s turn?’
The thing is, and yes I have become better at doing this, prayer actually works. I have found that it is okay to ask questions and to feel blah, but praying actually gives you some perspective and brings a whole lot of peace. You don’t need fancy words or to maintain any particular posture, you don’t even need to close your eyes.
God is closer than you think. Just talk to Him, tell Him how you are feeling and then sit in silence for a moment and listen. God always speaks. Sometimes it takes a while to recognise His voice, if this is your first time, but He always speaks. Give it a try – I am certainly going to be doing this a whole lot more.
You are loved.
